When is National Fitness Recovery Day? This day will take place on the last Tuesday of every March.
What is National Fitness Recovery Day? National Fitness Recovery Day (NFRD) is America’s day to cool down! Americans are among the hardest-working cultures in the world. We work hard and we play hard, and when we play hard – in fitness, sports, or any exercise – we create a need for healthy recovery.
NFRD celebrates this critical component of safe, regular exercise. Proper recovery is as important as exercise itself, and the key components are hydration, electrolyte replacement, and stretching.
Fitness is fundamental to supporting a long, healthy life, and an active lifestyle is fueled by daily hydration and faster nutrient recovery that helps the body stay durable, flexible, and ready to win the day.
Why is this day being celebrated or observed? Exercise gets all the press, but smart fitness recovery is just as important.
The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has determined that women and men should consume between 2.7 and 3.7 liters of water every day, yet studies show the U.S. national average is less than one liter a day.
This leads to a wide array of health deficiencies that are compounded when the body is starved for hydration and electrolytes – such as during periods of high activity.
NFRD is created to remind people of any activity level that hydration and recovery are critical, but especially so for the fitness community and those who exercise.
How should this day be celebrated or observed? Hydrate yourself and taking a purposeful day of recovery.
Of course, you don’t need to exercise to need hydration and electrolyte replacement. Studies show the average American is not hydrating adequately under any circumstances much less after periods of intense activity.
NFRD is a message of healthy hydration and recovery – especially for those who work hard, play hard, and exercise hard. And most Americans fall into one of these categories, if not more than one or all three.
Do your fitness a favor and don’t forget the importance of recovery. Celebrate NFRD every day for a healthier, more active lifestyle.
