When will International Blind Cat Day be celebrated? October 20th of each calendar year.
What is International Blind Cat Day? International Blind Cat Day, celebrated on October 20th, honors the bravery and loyalty of blind cats, who have adapted to life without sight. It is a celebration of their strength and spirit, as well as a reminder that they can still be happy, lead full lives, and should be adopted into loving homes as cherished family pets. Blindness in cats can be caused by treatable illnesses or genetics, but whatever the cause, blind cats navigate the world as well as any sighted cat and are just as deserving of love and forever homes.

Additionally, share informative articles that offer guidance on integrating a blind cat into a household with other pets or cats.
Why was International Blind Cat Day created? The primary objective in establishing International Blind Cat Day is to draw attention to blind cats, garner worldwide support for them, and emphasize their ability to lead fulfilling lives. Sadly, blind cats are often euthanized in animal control facilities and rescues around the world simply for being blind. This is a grave injustice, as blind cats lead normal, happy lives. At Blind Cat Rescue, we have witnessed this daily for 20 years. As our founder wisely noted, “Our blind cats don’t know they are blind, they know they are cats.” They play, catch bugs, bask in the sun, enjoy treats, run, climb, and cuddle just like sighted cats. Blind cats are just as deserving of adoption as any other cat. It’s heartbreaking that they are often euthanized simply because they are different.
Who created this day? This day was created by Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary in 2024.
