What is this day? Amerigo Vespucci day is the celebration of a real Italian born and raised explorer that discovered the truth about North and South America not being part of China. If it were not for Vespucci’s discovery, America would be named something else because of the assumption that Columbus landed in Asia. Amerigo Vespucci was a truthfinder and because of his tireless effort to really explore the Americas and find out they were a separate continent, the land masses were named after him. We’re appreciative of his effort in truly the founding of the Americas and contributing to our Italian American heritage for which we are grateful to have. We may speak English and Spanish in America but we were named after the Italian who sought the truth of our lands.
This day is being created to celebrate the contribution of an Italian explorer by the name of Amerigo Vespucci for which our country was named after. This day is being celebrated to remember the history of the explorer who realized America was not Asia. This day is being celebrated to make Americans realize how important the education of our Italian American heritage is so that a crucial understanding is formed of how our culture was shaped by the maps Vespucci influenced. This day is being created to celebrate Italian American heritage and contribution to American culture. This day is being created to teach people about the trials, tribulations, and contributions of Italian Americans in the USA throughout their time here.
How should this day be celebrated?
This day should be celebrated with parades, festivals, and food! Italian American restaurants, organizations, people, etc. Should all celebrate the accomplishments of there fellow Italian Americans including Amerigo Vespucci by educational events , artistic displays of culture, contests, and anything that helps spread awareness of Italian Americans contribution to American culture.
