When is this day celebrated? January 8
What is this day? On this day, we recognize that chickens are complex, unique, sentient beings who are worthy of our love and care. Chickens are some of the most misunderstood and underappreciated creatures on earth. They are the most abused land animals in the U.S., which we accept largely because of our misconceptions about them. In reality, they each have unique personalities, unique voices, and preferences, and as a species, they are smart, curious, and highly social, affectionate animals. When treated with kindness and compassion, they will seek out human interaction and companionship and can be just as snuggly and loving as our dogs and cats.
Who created this day? This day was founded by Tracey Glover in 2019.
How should this day be celebrated? On this day, we will honor the wonderful, lovable beings chickens are. If you have a snuggly companion chicken, please take a moment to love on that baby and share a photo showing the world what sweet, smart, curious, gentle sentient beings chickens are, and letting the world know that chickens are too sweet to eat! And if you don’t have a chicken to snuggle, you can still celebrate the Day by choosing to eat plant-based foods!
