When was this day created? National Friendship Day was initially started by Hallmark in 1919. Hallmark used this day to encourage people to celebrate friendship by sending loved ones greeting cards. The card industry suffered during the Great Depression and the National Friendship Day was lost only to reemerge in 1998 when Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nation.
How to celebrate: Reach out to all of your friends and tell them how special they are. If you live close, do something together. Time is something you’ll never get back, so be with your friends on National Friendship Day. If you can’t be together, use social media to connect. Send a note or talk on the phone. Then post to social media your pictures and memories.
