When is this day celebrated? The fourth Saturday in October
Who created this day? This day was founded by One United Race (OUR) in 2019 with our first Race planned for October of 2020. However, due to Covid we needed to delay our first One Race for OneRace until October of 2024.
What is this day?
OUR vision for One United Race is to be a positive uniting voice for the silent majority in our world that believe all people everywhere no matter language, ethnicity or country of origin are equal and valuable. Currently there are fringes of our society who are very vocal and well-resourced that want to divide us and create animosity among us over meaningless differences that make us unique but that uniqueness should be celebrated rather than used to divide us. We believe that these fringes make up a small percentage of the population but they create a lot of noise and garner a lot of attention. We believe that racism and the inequality it causes is one of the most damaging issues in the world today. This is not just a US issue; it is a global issue. We must start somewhere. We truly believe that the silent (or at least quiet) majority of people share the belief that everyone everywhere is created equal and should have equal opportunities to succeed. However, a very vocal minority does everything they can do to divide and discriminate, we are standing against that minority.
We believe that changing OUR world to embrace “equality for ethnicities as one united race”
demands all of OUR voices.
How should this day be celebrated?
- OUR will be sponsoring “One Race for One Race” 7k race/walks all over the world. (7k instead of 5k representing the 7 continents).
- Raise awareness and resources for OUR partner charities that are tackling issues that are common to all ethnicities and people.
- Spark positive conversations in the media, on social media or with our friends and co-workers to promote unity in the one human race.
