National Medical Coder Day was created to celebrate the hard work, dedication and insight medical coders provide daily. Medical coders roles have expanded greatly in recent years. From educating providers and staff to coding medical records for accuracy to performing compliance reviews. This field is vast and growing with certifications within different organizations that focus not only on general coding but also specialty specific certifications as well as compliance. Coders have the daunting task of reviewing documentation to make sure that all information is noted and code the patients charts for reimbursement purposes.
How should this day be celebrated or observed? This day should be spent honoring coders within the organizations that they work. A simple card or flower or certificate is the perfect gesture.
