When will this Day be celebrated?  May 18th of each calendar year.

What is National Kids Ignite Good!® Day!?

Global Game Changers Children’s Education Initiative, Inc. (GGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing social-emotional learning (SEL) and character and leadership development programs that empower students to overcome apathy, feel empathy, and foster a sustainable connection to service. We want all kids to know that they have the ability to make the world a better place, which is why we want to establish National Ignite Good!® Day! The goal of this day is to encourage all kids across the country to Ignite Good!® – do something nice without expecting anything in return.

On this day, we should encourage kids to use their talents to impact change. Whether that means baking a cake for a doctor, playing basketball with a bullied kid, creating beautiful cards for lonely individuals in retirement communities, or helping their teachers clean the classrooms, we know that kids have an amazing gift for kindness in their daily lives.

National Ignite Good!® Day! is a reminder of the world and future we can build if we focus on kindness, compassion, and service.

In addition to creating free resources for schools, parents, and communities to use to encourage adoption and observation of Ignite Good!® Day!, we as an organization will use this day each year as the day we announce our Ignite Good!® Challenge winners. Students and educators engaged in the Global Game Changers program will submit culminating Superpower Service Projects for judging by a panel of experts. Assessed on creativity, planning, execution, impact, and presentation, the highest-scoring Superpower Projects in individual and group categories will win cash prizes.

Why is this day being created?

The mission of our organization is to help kids discover their unique Superpower to make the world a better place, using our Superpower Equation: MY TALENT + MY HEART = MY SUPERPOWER!® There’s a hero inside of all of us, waiting to answer the call. The first step in this process is to learn to Ignite Good!®. By starting with a simple flame of kindness, we can create a wildfire of compassion.

There are so many things that divide our country. The only way that we will forge bonds as a society that allow us to work together is through concentrated effort to be kind to everyone, even those who look differently, act differently, and think differently from you. A little spark is all you need. We all have the spark inside of us; we just need to nurture it.

How should this day be observed?

  • Encourage kids to set an Ignite Good!® mission for the day.
  • Post reminders of simple ways to Ignite Good!® in community or school spaces.
  • Take a picture/video of your Ignite Good!® mission and post on social media to encourage others to join in.
  • Use some of the free worksheets or posters that Global Game Changers has developed.
  • Start class or conversations by asking children, “What have you done to Ignite Good! today/this week?” and celebrate their actions.
  • Identify ways that kids can Ignite Good! using their unique talents and interests. How can they use what they love to do to inspire compassion or change? How can they impact who/what they love to make a difference?
  • Plan how you will continue to Ignite Good! all year round.
