When will this Day be celebrated?  October 5th of each calendar year.

What is National Hypertrophic Olivary Degeneration Awareness Day?

We currently do not have any idea of the size of our rare neurological disease community for HOD. We would like to have this day to raise awareness and interest in finding the cause, treatments, and cures for our rare disease. We do not want one more patient to be diagnosed and not have community and support and information about what is happening to them. Our National Day will be used to raise awareness and funds for research.

Why is this day being created?

The Hypertrophic Olivary Degeneration Association (HODA) is a patient organization that was created on October 5, 2021. We choose October 5th as a special day for the HOD community. HOD is an extraordinarily rare degenerative brain disease, that is classified as a movement disorder. HODA would like this day as to be a day of celebration of our community, and use is to raise awareness for our rare disease.

How should this day be observed?

National HOD Awareness day should be observed by awareness runs, hikes, bicycling, or any other creative fundraising activities. It is an excellent day to leverage social media communities with awareness information. It is also a day to celebrate the community who lives with this devastating, incurable and untreatable diagnosis. It is simply one day of the year to acknowledge the bravery of our community.

Who created this day?  This day was created by the Hypertrophic Olivary Degeneration Association in 2022.
