What is National Girls in Automotive Day?
National Girls in Automotive Day is about promoting the automotive industry and career opportunities within it. Women are underrepresented in this industry. Data shows many children are making up their minds about what careers they are interested in by middle school. This day is about promoting a career in this industry early and often!
How should this day be observed?
This day should be celebrated with interviews with men and women in the automotive industry encouraging girls to join their ranks. It should highlight how a girl’s perspective is an asset to the automotive field, not a perspective they should have to hide or put away to enjoy this industry. It should also be celebrated with food, vendors and vehicles!
Why is this day being created?
I am an automotive industry cheerleader! I wish to open people’s minds to the many career lattices available within this amazing industry. We need to build our bench to ensure there will be people to continue to repair vehicles, including the trucks that bring our phones, medicine, gifts, and other precious items. I want to mark this day to ensure that encouraging girls to consider a career in the automotive field remains a focus.
