When is this day celebrated? March 6
What is this day? Emotional Civility is lacking in our country today. We celebrate giving people a “piece of our mind” and speaking “how we feel”. Incivility has become a standard that is ringing in the halls of our boardrooms, courtrooms, classrooms, and homes. How we interact with each other and how we manage our emotions and responses is critical to our nation remaining great, and is important in our progression as individuals. We are challenged in our everyday life to process information and then respond to the information in an appropriate manner and to teach appropriate responses to generations behind us. This is a day that we will all commit to handle our emotions in an appropriate way and respond with civility.
Emotional Civility Day is the National Day when we commit to be mindful of how we respond to others. There is a lane between our brain and our hearts that governs the way we respond. This is the brief moment that allows us to choose how we respond. On National Emotional Civility Day we will commit to pause and reflect before we respond in a manner that may harm ourselves, our reputation, or injure others.
Who created this day? This day was founded by Sharon Anderson in 2019.
How should this day be celebrated? On Emotional Civility Day everyone should be reminded to pause and take a moment before they react and respond to information that may be challenging, disappointing, or hurtful.
