When will this Day be celebrated? September 29th of each calendar year.

What is National Day of Belongingness?

When children feel that they belong, the effect is powerful. Children who feel valued and included develop confidence and a strong sense of self. In turn, they’re better equipped to show kindness and compassion to others, including those who are different from themselves. That’s why Primrose Schools®, The Leader in Early Education and Care®, puts belongingness at the center of its Balanced Learning® curriculum during the new school year in September and all year long.

National Day of Belongingness exists to help children feel included and build character by finding similarities and celebrating differences, while nurturing respect, kindness and understanding.

How should this day be observed?

On National Day of Belongingness, families are invited to help children learn about themselves and others in a way that’s accepting of all through books, activities, music and more. Families can:

  • Read books, like those in Primrose schools, that celebrate other cultures and include diverse characters
  • Listen to music, like what’s in the Harmony & Heart music collection that explores other cultures
  • Learn by taking part in activities, like those in Primrose classrooms, through at-home learning resources to help children and families embrace concepts of belongingness

Who created this day?  This day was created by Primrose Schools in 2022.
