When will National Black Travel Day be celebrated? November 11th of each calendar year.

What is National Black Travel Day? This is a day for Black travelers and travel professionals to celebrate diversity, our impact, future and culture in travel. It is an homage to the Black travel movement; a reminder for our allies, our supporters, but also for ourselves that diversity in travel isn’t a trend that ends, it’s necessary for a brighter future for all who travel.

How should National Black Travel Day be celebrated or observed? This day is the day to show your unwavering commitment to DE&I. Whether it be through supporting a Black travel professional/organization, or highlighting the actions your company has taken towards workplace diversity.

Why was National Black Travel Day created? In honor of the Black travel movement and Barrington Irving, the first Black person to solo circumnavigate the world, the Black Travel Summit would like to designate November 11th National Black Travel Day. As it is our mission to support, empower and create opportunities with and for the Black travel community, we wanted to create this day as a reminder, but also as a day to think back on our commitments to diversity and whether they’ve been achieved, or take action!

Who created this day? This day was created by Anita Francois in 2023.
