National Afro Puff Day

What is National Afro Puff Day?

National Afro Puff Day celebrates the iconic puffs of black girls and women alike. The natural hair movement of the 70s allowed black people to reclaim their beauty and naturalness and has experienced a rebirth with a new generation of black women embracing their natural hair. The afro puff is not just a hairstyle it is a connection to our heritage and a style just about all of us have worn. Some afro puffs are adorned with bobbles, jewels, barrettes, ribbons, and wraps. This day is about expression and fun.

Why was National Afro Puff Day created?

National Afro Puff Day is an exciting way to show pride in our natural hair. There’s a feeling of fondness for its familiarity and it’s a reminder of our younger selves. The afro puff is an example of black women’s creativity and our ability to express ourselves through our hair. National Afro Puff Day would join us together as mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and friends. This day should be celebrated with the love of self and appreciation of our glorious hair.

How should National Afro Puff Day be celebrated or observed?

National Afro Puff Day is a day to rock the puffs! We want to see everyone sporting their best puffs in any way they desire. We want to see big ones, little ones, colorful ones, get creative, and have fun. On September 6 grab your bobbles and edge brush and pull your coils, curls, and kinks into afro puffs. Puff On!
